Rethinking Knox'd sections, content

We rolled out a few changes to the structure of Knox'd that should help in content findability. For instance, the URL for categories used to be:

http://knoxd.com/category/blogs/

This URL is now:

http://knoxd.com/categories/blogs/

In addition to the slight URL change, we introduced a new category index that displays all feeds for a category, and the number of headlines for each (last 30 days). Expect changes for this to come soon.

We've also added feed detail pages for Knox'd. You can drill down the this level of content by clicking a feed title on the category page. Here is the feed detail page for Casey's blog:

http://knoxd.com/categories/blogs/63/

This page displays the latest 25 headlines for a feed in a river-style format. We hope to improve this page as well in the future.

(Notice that you can now drill down through the URL without reaching a 404 error.)

Lastly, we've change the way headlines are timestamped in the database.

We had a problem with certain feeds future-dating their headlines, which messed up the Knox'd river section. All feeds are now set to the current date and time when they're ingested, which has been increased to 30 minutes instead of an hour.

The river now displays the time since -- using the Django "timesince" filter -- the headline was added. This, we feel, is more beneficial than just a date.
